I was going to DL Aizo VCV.

But when I saw that we can’t use g flag on him, I got peeved and stopped before I could even click the download link.

Arbitrary flag prohibitions are also what made me not download Torane Speedy, despite the fact his voicer is my compatriot and…

I think that SkyIsland would actually agree with prohibiting g flags.

 g flags are just icky, honestly. There are so many better flags to choose from.

 (besides, I hate flags. I just stick to good banks that don’t need them.)

Holy mother of Jegus. Non-UTAU followers, I’m going to tag it as UTAU because it will be a LONG rant.

No matter what you say, some flags ARE necessary to UTAU. Unless you want your UTAU to be an over nasally, metallic and breathy mess on fresamp, you will need to lower her BRE (the standard parameter in UTAU is 50 for some reason) and you’ll need to apply really low F and L flags to it because this resampler’s formant needs calibrating. Saying “good banks don’t need flags” is a misconception, because every resampler works in a different way; saying “most resamplers are crappy” is going to be yet another misconception, because at least two of those resamplers out there are made by Ameya himself, not to mention they handle pitchbending and breathing far better than the standard resampler we have in UTAU.

Also, yours and my own visions of UTAU are vastly different; in fact, they’re distinct to the very core. While you see UTAU as a way to create “realistic” electronic singers (even though no singing software will ever be exactly as real as a human), I interpret it as more of an experiment; inputting instruments, screams and distorted voices to it are just part of said experimenting. Trying to make “realistic” voices is only another part of it all; saying it’s the only valid one is, at least to me, not only taking out practically all the fun of UTAU, but also undermining its potential. Some of the stuff may sound “bad” (again, subjectivity plays a role here), but not all experiences must be good or nice. Experiments can go wrong; sometimes, they are intended to go wrong, but they go really right instead. To ignore all of it is to close your mind for the limitless possibilities UTAU and its vast flexibility gives to us.

tl;dr: Flags are there to be used and experimented on with different voicebanks on different resamplers, you like it or not.

Though I have to use flags with my UTAU or they sound like hell. OTL

It’s just something that requires some thought before slapping flags on there. Personally I try to stay away from g flags, but a lot of time coupled with other flags they sound really nice.

I love Soshi because it’s a boy UTAU voiced by a girl that has no traces of sounding like a girl at all—at that is called talented voice acting.unless it’s her natural voice, then i’ll feel like shit for saying this omg
